If you’ve used the contact form on my site before, you’ll probably recognise it as the bells-and-whistles WordPress plugin cforms II. It was fairly simple to set up, if a little complex for what I needed.

Today was the last straw really and I got fed up of it. All I wanted was a plugin that allowed me to put a form on my contact page, and that was that. Instead, I got that, plus it seemed every time I logged into my admin UI, I needed to upgrade it.

I don’t mind the odd upgrade, but cforms II just got annoying. When I upgraded to WordPress 2.7, it because much easier to upgrade it, so I carried on. But now, due to some quarrel which frankly I don’t care about, there is a permanent message saying that you have to update manually – which I just can’t be bothered with really. So cforms II has lost out, and I’m now using a new plugin which I hope will need upgrading less frequently and generally be less bulky… Contact Form 7.

At lunch, I asked Sii (one of our design guru’s here at Netbasic) to see what he thought of my new theme. He said pretty much straight away to get rid of the solid black lines, so I’ve replaced them all (except the date by the post titles as I stupidly put the border in the image itself…) with more subtle greys. So if you’re still seeing solid black lines around stuff, clear your cache and enjoy the new easier-on-the-eye greys. Cheers Sii!

I’ve been getting lots of giggles from various “fail”-type blogs, namely English Fail and Fail Blog. For some daily lols, I recommend subscribing to these.

A couple that have particularly made me lol (both from English Fail) are:

If you’re reading this on the site as opposed to your normal feed reader, then you’ll notice my brand new shiny theme. If you’re reading it in IE, it will look crap. It works in Firefox, but I have yet to do IE-compatibility – if anyone fancies taking a gander at the code and fixing it for me, please do! I’ve got some minor tweaks to do to it (comments are un-styled at the moment for example), but mostly I’m quite happy with it. If anyone notices anything broken or odd, please do let me know!

Edit: I’ve decided I prefer the way it looks in IE, so I modified the theme so Firefox matches the layout of the IE theme :)

You’ll notice on my sidebar a couple of new countdown widgets, thought I’d put a trackback link cuz they’re pretty cool: http://adambrown.info/b/widgets/2007/07/30/kb-countdown-widget-v31/ .
