It’s been a little while since I talked about our little one, and my she has grown up a lot. She’s 14 months old now and she’s walking around like no tomorrow. She wants to walk so much that if you let her loose outside she will just walk and walk, and if you try picking her up she will protest. She’s got such a character now, and I’m happy because she always seems to be so happy. We must be doing something right, right? We went to Marwell Zoo last weekend and she loved it. Maybe she’s still a little young though as she seemed more interested in the other children than the animals, but she had a lovely day out. You should be able to see a picture of me and her looking at the fishes in the African bit at the top of this post.
In other news, we are settling well into our new home and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help, especially our lovely parents who have given us guidance and support through everything, so a massive thanks to them! Work is busy as always; it’s keeping me right on my toes and some of the projects we’re working on are really exciting.
Hannah has been doing really good too since we moved back to Portsmouth, she’s making regular visits to new mums she meets on a site called Netmums, and has been visiting lots of play areas in the vicinity such as Krazy Kaves, which Freyja seems to love! I’m planning on booking a day off work one day so we can all go together as it looks like I’d have a lot of fun there too…
All in all, everything has been going really well for us and it’s thrilling watching Freyja growing up and developing such a wonderful personality. Time really is flying and we’re having such good memories – many of which I’ve got on video camera, but I just haven’t had time to sort through all the footage and actually get some videos on YouTube. It’ll happen one day I’m sure…
I haven’t done a “personal” update for some time now, so I thought I’d briefly brush over our recent lives. The photo you can see on the left is the current state of our new house that is being built in the new Dickens Quarter development in Portsmouth. As you can see it is coming along well, and the estimated completion date is currently the end of April. It’s exciting to see it come so far and we simply can’t wait to make it our own lovely home.
On the Freyja side of things, she’s drawing close to 10 months old now and is coming on leaps and bounds. She can make “red indian” noises (patting her mouth and making noise), walk around standing up and holding the furniture, put balls into the “learn and sort” helicopter toy I got her for Yule, crawl around on hands and knees with quite a pace, wave, throw tantrums and all sorts of other bits and pieces.
She’s truly a joy and makes me a very proud parent. She also eats us out of house and home, typically getting through a bowl of porridge and yoghurt for breakfast, a slice of bread with topping and a yoghurt and biscuit for lunch, a snack mid-afternoon, and a bowl of healthy home-made food followed usually by 2 or 3 yoghurts. As you can probably tell, she likes yoghurts, but there’s nothing wrong with that as they’re a good source of calcium as Hannah’s milk starts to deplete.
In other news, it’s Hannah’s birthday soon, so if you haven’t been invited (on Facebook of course…) and you think you should be, get in touch.

Help Secure Jacks Place @ Naomi House
Once again Sii is running everywhere in an effort to make himself fit enough for another sponsered marathon.
This time, he’s trying to raise money for jacksplace@naomihouse. Naomi House provide respite care, terminal care and bereavement support for children, young people and their families. Netbasic organised a trip last year to visit the hospice, and it’s really good to see what a fantastic job they are doing there.
Jack’s Place is a multi-million pound project to create an entire new building to provide support for young people. Because of the financial crisis, Naomi house, like many charities, are currently going through a really hard time – they have a huge amount of funds at risk in the bank – and are campaigning to secure the funds that the hospice rely on to keep giving support for children with life-limiting and terminal illnesses.
Radio 4 will be airing a programme called Seven Days tonight at 8pm, which I hope will raise awareness for Naomi House’s campaign.
In the mean time you can help right now by sponsoring Sii’s run – it’s for a really good cause and your donation really will be appreciated, and will go towards buying a door that will allow the young people to go where they please, see their friends, or pop out in the garden for some fresh air – just like you and I can whenever we want.
Help Secure Jacks Place @ Naomi House
After several days of stress, tiredness, anger, fustration and all sorts, we’ve moved into the new house and everything is done (for the mean time anyway…).
Firstly, the servers. I took them to a friend’s house to stay there temporarily until I could get my new internet line set up. Unfortunately after a day or two of waiting for DNS updates to propogate through the world, it looked like it just wouldn’t work. I didn’t have time to fiddle around making it work, I just needed the sites up as I have a couple of important clients. I’ve had to shell out at my own cost, temporary hosting at Newnet. So far so good except for the fact I cannot get any PHP error logs, which is fustrating as the Frosthold site does not work properly at the moment. I managed to get this blog back up and running after finding that my Feedburner Stats plug-in doesn’t work on the Newnet servers, so that’s disabled for now (coding fail perhaps?). I’m still waiting for their online support service to give me some sort of response (24 hours later, and not even a “we have acknowledged your ticket”… Unfortunately due to the temporary migration to newnet, Tom’s blog and Hannah’s blog won’t be working as I stupidly set them to use the same DB prefix (wp_), and I can only afford one MySQL database. Sorry chap and chapette…
The actual house move went fairly smoothly, albeit loads of heavy lifting and Hannah and I cursing at each other when boxes were dropped on each other (and no, thats not some kind of kinky game..). The new house is absolutely gorgeous, and we’re having a few people over tonight to celebrate our engagement as well as the house warming. Now I know that the blog is working, I’ll take a few pictures to show everyone what it’s like.
No sooner after I had started packing away the 360, Blu-Ray player, PS2 etc., Mike, a member of Pompey Music forum brought round the Nintendo Wii that Hannah wanted to buy. So unfortunately, the entire afternoon which was meant to be spent packing up for the new house was in fact spent playing on the Wii. We’ve set up our Mii’s, and have been playing a little Wii Sports and Mario Party 8. She’s still playing, but someone has to cook the dinner, so while the oven is warming up I thought I’d mention what we’re up to.
Things are getting pretty hectic around here now. Packing the house up for moving to Whiteley, as well as preparing for the imminent Hellfest (yay!). We managed to get down town today for a bit and pick up some bits (baby wipes, Euros and the like) ready for that. We’re on a really tight budget this year, and it’s made even tighter by the fact we have to save a shed load of money for the wedding, and more importantly, Hannah’s engagement ring! The new house’s rent is £170 more a month between us as well, so that’s another kick in the budget’s teeth.
Another headache I’ve been trying to figure out is what I’m going to do with the servers during the move. I can’t get internet at the new place until the BT line is activated which is on the day we move in (and not a minute sooner!). This means that I probably won’t have internet at all from 1st July for about 10-15 days, providing the new ISP doesn’t mess anything up. I spoke to Kelvin briefly, and understandably, he said no to letting me put the servers in the work’s server cabinet (security risks and all that), so ideally I need to find a home for them at a friend’s house. I’ll try and chat up a few friends who I know have good internet connections, but if any of you are my clients reading this, I will try and keep downtime to a minimum, but there will be a bit of disruption, so be warned!
Anyway, off to cook dinner, ta ta for now!
