Today my very shiny new server cases arrived, which of course, means tonight will be spent setting them up, much to the delight of Hannah. They’re missing the sliding rails, but I’ve sent them an e-mail about that. Anyway, the cases have lots of funky looking features, such as a locking front panel, nice handles on the front. Only problem is it’s slightly longer than I expected, so I may have to remove the handles and move the front supports to the very front. Oh joy, more reconfiguring of the cabinet! Anyway, these should be fun to set up tonight and I expect lots of annoyances and hinderances on the way, as normal when it comes to computers!

Does this mean you have old server cases going begging?

Heh, unfortunately the old cases are just standard tower ATX cases, not rack-mountable. I’m upgrading my entire server system so that the server is fully rack-mounted, hence buying the new cases. You’re welcome to the old cases if you like – they’re just Novatech tower cases really, nothing special to them.
If you’re looking for cheap rack-mountable cases, the ones I got were £79 plus £25 for sliding rail kits (recommended, they’re heavy buggers). They do 1U, 2U and 3U versions as well, I just got 4U cuz you can fit any standard ATX mobo in without using PCI/AGP riser cards to save space (also more room for ventilation).
