So as I sit listening to SYL, working away the last few hours of this trip in Lake Forest, I am mentally preparing for another instalment of the awesome Wacken Open Air. So my plan for the next few weeks is as follows:

Fly back to England. Unpack. Pack for Wacken. Put all of my CDs in a spindle. Sleep. Get car serviced. Meet sister. Wait for masses of people to invade our flat. Sleep. Drive to Germany. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Drive to England. Have a bath. Sleep. Fly to California. Work/Sleep combination for some days. Fly to England. Sleep. Drive to Derby for Bloodstock. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Sleep. Get drunk and listen to metal. Drive home.

Sounds excellent to me! Unfortunately, in that list, the only decent amount of time I’ll get to see Gemma will be when I come back for Bloodstock, which isn’t until 16th! Which sucks. Things like this make wedding planning very difficult, especially when she is working so much too!

So after a couple of light drinks last night, ended up in bed about midnight, and was awake at about 9am this morning. We’ll be heading into work soon I expect, so I should probably have a shower before that happens. There’s some strange people outside walking their dog and making wierd noises… perhaps an American mating call? I don’t know…

So I have a few days left in California, after that I’ll be back in UK preparing to go to Germany already! No rest for the wicked, eh? I also ordered Gemma and I’s Bloodstock Open Air tickets for her birthday, so anyone else who’s going, give us a shout! We’ll be taking Tom and Sophie in my car, so unfortunately there’s no lifts going, but would be ace to meet up anyway..

Ah Wacken… just 11 days to go. Oh and they’ve started the webcam now! Looks nice weather, apparently there is a heat wave in Germany right now that looks set to last beyond Wacken. Excellent!

So today was pretty hectic. At 3pm, I was asked to make a build in just 2 hours. I managed it though, because lets be fair, I’m awesome.

Now thankfully I get some relaxing time, Seb, Ari and myself are sitting relaxing with a couple of drinks and playing computer games…. and blogging. An exciting new activity brought to you by Procter and Gamble, who own the world by the way. Look at pretty much any household good, or in fact Tampax, and you’ll find it’s either made by Procter and Gamble or Unilever. The secret companies that own our very lives.

I’m not some kind of conspiracy theorist or anything, but it makes you wonder really, doesn’t it? Anyway, my train of thought is not exactly on it’s normal path after a few lovely refreshing beers. But I’m still missing the wench and my friends and family… soon I shall be back with them!

I have nothing of real value to add to this, so perhaps I should be quiet and watch Seb “update from X-Box Live”.

Lovely jubbly.

So, in exactly 2 weeks today I will be at the almighty Wacken Open Air festival, about this time in fact, I expect the bands will have already started. I’m very excited.

Should be immense, to say the least. Many great bands I look forward to, but a little upset that Gemma can’t come, but I understand why.

Shortly after Wacken is also Bloodstock, for which I need to get tickets! I shall do that tonight after work.

Anyway, unfortunately this trip to USA is an extremely busy one, so I shall have to get on with finishing off this exciting project!

So the smoking ban came in yesterday. I’m very interested to see how it pans out, as I believe that English pub-goers are quite different to those of Scotland and Wales – not meant offensively, but lets be fair – English people are renowned for their smoky pubs. My personal opinion is that it should be left up to the clients to decide whether their pub is non-smoking. Therefore, by power of veto, each individual pub could implement a non-smoking or smoking policy. Therefore, there would be no “draconian” (as I have heard it called) ban, and conversely, no force of smoke on unwilling punters.

I am aware that prior to the ban, landlords had the power to make their venues non-smoking. One could simply join the band-wagon and argue that the landlords didn’t want to implement no-smoking policies because the they didn’t want that. I slightly concur with this, but with a slightly different twist… I believe it should be up to the landlord to actually hold a vote whether or not a venue becomes non-smoking. Doing this would allow punters to decide themselves. I believe then there would be a few more available non-smoking bars, and a few less smoking bars.

Interestingly, joining the bandwagon, the Spice Island Inn has been non-smoking for some time because the landlord decided it to be that way. From what I can see (and I may be wrong), their custom was affected. I saw most people going to the Still & West (literally next door) for a drink and a smoke, or going to the Spice Island and sitting outdoors. I believe that is because people had the choice – go to a busy smoking pub and smoke and have a pint, or go to an empty non-smoking pub and just drink.

I went into a little more depth than I would’ve liked there, but I think I’ve got my point across… I’m not very good with explaining things.

In other news, I went to Guildford on Friday feeling quite worse for wear after being ill all of Friday. Nevertheless, I perked up later that day and we had an enjoyable party. Thanks to all those that came. Saturday was spent sleeping in bed until about 4, until I went round to my sister’s to see Finley again, whom I held and cried for the entire time until he went back to his mummy! I think he was a tired baby, but I left about 5/6 I think, and headed via Tesco to get some rather tasty BBQ Chicken breast and bits of veg for dinner, as well as a DVD.

So the DVD was Hostel – I’ll try not to include any spoilers for those of you who don’t wish to know what’s in it (whether that be because you haven’t seen it and want to, or because you haven’t seen it and don’t!). To summarise the film, one could say it’s 40 minutes of boobs and sex, followed by 40 minutes of wanton violence and gore… which in a nutshell isn’t such a bad thing. The storyline was surprisingly not as appalling as I thought it would be with most modern horror films. And that’s about all I can say about it really without going into detail.

Oh – and one last comment. I’ve not given up smoking, I’ve given up going to the pub. It’s cheaper to buy booze at the supermarket, and I can happily sit at home and drink and smoke. And even if I don’t smoke, it won’t smell of bleach, body odour and stale alcohol.

Anyway – this is quite a long post now, so I should probably finish up.
